When I was a Pastor, quite often I had to deal with life and death situations. Someone would pass away and I would not always be sure if they were a believer. It’s important for us to know if our loved ones are saved. I hope this poem ministers to your heart and conveys the importance of knowing that we are His people.
Are You Going To Heaven?
It was a conversation like a silhouette
Dark against the light.
I couldn’t see the weapons yet
I knew it was a fight.
When I said, “Are you going to heaven?”
“I’ve been to church was the reply.”
“But are you going to heaven?”
“That’s not my only reason why,
You know, I’ve always believed in peace on earth,
And goodwill toward men.”
“But are you going to heaven my friend?”
I asked my friend again
if he could depend
On going there.
I said, “You know the end could come at any time and anywhere.”
When I said, “Are you going to heaven?”
“I’ve obeyed the golden rule.”
“But are you going to heaven?”
“I’ve been to Sunday school.”
“You know if all your goodness could get you there
Then Jesus was a fool to have died.
You know without the saviour
You couldn’t get to heaven
If you tried.”
But like the stars in the sky
There’s so many reasons why
It’s thought that God should open heavens door.
But unlike those stars
There’s only one way that’s ours,
And Jesus is the doorway nothing more.
“So are you going to heaven?”
“I haven’t been so good today.”
“But are you going to heaven.?”
“I haven’t prayed like I should today.”
“But if all your goodness could get you there
Then why was Jesus nailed to the wood
Crucified?
You know without the Saviour
You couldn’t get to heaven
If you tried.
But you know that with the saviour,
You can get to heaven
Because he died.”
